Identity Crisis
Gen 1:26-27, NIV
26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
So many people struggle with their identity. Your identity is the very image of God! Your identity in Christ is one that has power and dominion!
Today's message that is being portrayed to every young person, including you and me, is "be yourself and go out and get what the world owes you". For instance, have you stopped to listen to the lyrics of a rap song that plays on the radio? People love these songs and these artists because they are saying they "want their money, their girls, their drugs and guns and they want it now". It's an identity Crisis.
We have sadly clothed ourselves with an identity other than the one God intended us to have. God's plan for your life is to give you good things and to bless you in every, yes every, aspect of your life. What has happened is that we, being the church and the world, have sought after our own desires and our own ambitions rather than seeking first the Kingdom of God. You know, if we seek first God's kingdom he said he would add "All" things to us. Now what is not covered in all things? Your identity is not in what the world can give you or even what the world has to offer you. Your identity is in the fact that you were created in God's image! Let that fact sink in this week. You are the very image of Almighty God!
Have a great week!
